Larry-bob Roberts: Larry-bob Roberts is into sparking culture, politics, and creating fusions between the two. Since 1989, he has been publishing in print and now online the zine, Holy Titclamps!
He currently plays piano in the band the Winsome Griffles, and maintains the online SF Bay Area weekly queer cultural calendar, Queer Things To Do, as well the QComedy website.
With author Kirk Read, he co-hosts the long-running, popular monthly spoken word, music, comedy, and performance open mic “Smack Dab” at Magnet. He lives in San Francisco.

Candor and Wit

I caught Larry-Bob's reading at Book Soup in LA last week where he presented this wonderful little book that touches on just about everything gay in the past 30 years, making it an apt-titled read indeed. A thinking man's memoir, this book displays all the best attributes of the DIY punk mindset, of which Larry Bob is a superlative example having tirelessly published and archived all things zine. There's politics and irony and disgust, perplexity and ennui, but always along with it is that great childlike joy which finds delight in the wonder of it all..yummy little tidbits, like 'open mikes are my church' or his search for 'socially responsible pants'. There's no agenda here, rare and refreshing for a book these days, there's just a bright mind paying attention and sending back tales and surprisingly insightful and revelatory observations from the circus. Whether he's talking to random people on the bus, assessing the odd permutations of style, fashion and sexual fetishism, or trying to figure out that odd city of San Francisco, Larry Bob approaches all his topics with a freshness and a skeptical joy which makes him the ideal companion to ride through gay history with. He reminds us all that its about LIBERATION not fitting in. I've always felt books were a chance to commune with other minds, and Larry Bob's is a mind well worth spending time with, for it possesses that greatest of qualities: its wide open and awake, and as such, it just might help set you free too.

A longtime Queer Zinester gives good essay

If I could, I would issue a copy of this new book to every impressionable young gay person just taking those first little timid babysteps out of the closet, in an effort to keep them the hell off of the so-called Right Path of the cookie-cutter mainstream gay scene; I'd encourage them instead to stray over to the less-traveled DIY realm of Larry-Bob and his friends, where folks are encouraged to color outside of the lines and make up their own lyrics, while having a lot more fun thinking for themselves rather than letting others do it for them.

Excellent Insight and Individual Thinking Abound!

I am shocked by some of review words on this book by other Amazon buyers, it was both a rewarding experience as well as a funny and insightful look at the world around the author. He has a sharp eye for details and finds the most humorous moments to share. Clearly his background in zine authorship and creation has given him an insight into the colorful people he encounters and faces in everyday life. I can't urge you more to pick up a copy, I have read it twice and found new things the second time around! You are in for a treat!
