Ridiculously Thought-Provoking and Challenging

There is a sincerity that comes from the words of Mitch Glaser that seldom seems evident in a book like this. While he shows his passion, he demonstrates his knowledge of the topic with finesse and confidence.
As a Jewish man, the first 30 pages resonated with me in a way that captured some of my own personal thoughts, struggles, and curiosities. What does it mean to be "Jewish?" What does faith and religion and belief have to do with it?
"Isaiah 53 Explained" offered an answer that is not very common among Jewish people. It guides the reader through an easy-to-read, yet skillfully-written look at the 53rd chapter in the Old Testament book of Isaiah. All the while, Glaser is frank yet considerate of the reader's thoughts, skepticism and reluctance to consider such a taboo subject; perhaps Yeshua (Jesus) could be the one spoken of in this polarizing but attention-worthy chapter.
The comparisons and similarities to the description in this chapter as explained in the book to the life and death of Yeshua is uncanny and begs real thought and personal investigation. It seems that there is no better place to start than this book.
Glaser even discusses the opposing views, which he thoughtfully considers and still gives his opinion as to why they cannot be correct.
If you are Jewish this is a must read because, from the heart of another Jewish man, this chapter needs to be explained it is has "changed my life" as the by-line states.
If you are Christian, this can only enhance your understanding of the man whom you know as the Messiah, which stems from the Jewish people and whom was spoken of by the Jewish prophets.
Well worth the read!

Reading Isaiah 53: explained is explicable

Last year, for some bizarre reason I can't remember, my banker mentioned to me that he had seen a poster advertising "Isaiah 53- Explained" by Mitch Glaser. He had been intrigued about why evangelical Christians and even a growing minority of Jewish people believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the subject of this Ancient Hebrew prophecy. He had tried to summon the courage to order this book but had succumbed to inertia. Having no such qualms about being suspected of treason by my own religious Jewish relatives, I gave him mine and ordwred a second for myself! And the guy enjoyed the read, and we discuss it in a coffee shop every six months. And considering how dull the market is for small private funds, our scheduled lunchtime discussion of Isaiah 53 ends up being a lot more long and interesting than the previous activity. What do we like about it? Mitch Glaser seems to write this book for truly liberal secular open-minded autunomous thinking educated Jews, just like we both aspire to be. Although religious Jews are not excluded from those who would be engaged by the read. Or, come to think of it, secular Gentiles and committed Christians either. And he dares you to constructively disagree with his premise, by coming up with a better candidate for the main character of the book than Jesus of Nazareth. Maybe other readers would like order it too, and little Isaiah 53 studies can sprout all over the land, for this provacative and well written book, is certinly best pondered on alone, but then thrashed out with others. However, if you want to be more private about it, at least you can now keep it off your bookshelf and store it on your kindle! Either way, its well worth a read about a significant man who shaped our civilisation, and who needs by both Jews and Christians to be seen in his Jewish context, if they are to both understand the message they each have to offer to the world.

Good read

This is really a good book to read, especially for those of the Jewish Faith. It really explains what Isaiah 53 is all about and that is that Christ is the suffering servant that needed to come and save the world.
