A fantasy adventure with some erotica!

Story has potential, now it’s up to the author to iron out some of the weak spots. As with all the books nowadays the main character starts out as the weakest character in the story. His friends and outside influences help strengthen his resolve. The author needs to be careful with weak and whinny. Nobody likes whinny characters. Found the erotica to be straight forward, not dominate in the book. Author seems to be looking for that right mixture of a story, with a sugar added. Would have given the author 3.5 stars if possible, but since the author took the chance to create the story, I rounded the rating up to 4 stars.

Easy to read not too many characters. The sex parts were predictable but still got the blood flowing. Should have been more to the female Nia character and her familiar. Overall entertaining and satisfying.

I wish I had this book in Architecture School

I don't remember ever having a textbook for design studio - undoubtedly because this book hadn't been published yet. If it had, I would have had a wonderful little book that breaks down five years worth of architectural wisdom into 101 pages. I recommend reading it (about a ten minute read) before and a couple of times during the design process to refocus yourself. If nothing else, it should be required reading for first year students because it will teach you to speak architect. 'Parti' 'Figure/Ground' 'Positive Space' 'Negative Space' and all the other jargon architects tend to use are all defined here.

The book contains advice on both the technical and the intellectual. Hints for everything from lettering to post modern theory share page space with reminders as varied as 'design in section' to 'if you can't explain your design in terms your grandmother understands, you don't understand your own design.'

Nearly everything in the book is a hit. Even the cover is made from chip board. If you're a poor architecture student, scrape together some coffee money and get a copy. If you're already an architect, get a copy and remember a time before design problems were strip malls and warehouses.

Print version is excellent, but Kindle eBook is terrible

The print version of this book is excellent. The layout is clean, elegant, easy-to-read, with illustrations and explanations facing each other on separate pages, and the content is insightful. This book is a model in clarity and conciseness. I own this book and love it.

Unfortunately, the eBook version's page layout is a failure. It has the same content, but the layout is completely messed up. For a given illustration, the *previous* explanation appears on the same page, without any visual indication that it is so. It is thus very hard to read and utterly confusing. I'm surprised the publisher messed up the layout of this book so badly. The font is also weirdly huge. I was so disappointed. Don't buy this eBook version until they fix the layout.

There are no jokes in the book.

Got this book for my wife as a gift after she graduated with her Master's in Architecture. She said she'd been planning on buying it for a while, so I surprised her with it and she loves it. I thought it was a book filled with jokes about architecture, but turns out, it is completely filled with actual useful architecture jargon and knowledge that she actually did learn. It serves as a great reference guide for her profession and a little reminder of all the hard work she put in to her degree. Makes a great gift or a handy tool for yourself.

Good Info but Needs Editing

There is a lot of good information in this book on how to spot this type of abuse. I recognize I have contact with several people who fit this profile, a few of whom I have to deal with on a regular basis. Just knowing what's happening when I get that "something is wrong here" feeling is a tremendous help. I feel like knowing what's happening, while it's happening, will make it easier to extricate myself if possible and, if not, stand up for myself.

I'm only halfway through the book, though, and I'm struggling. While there's a lot of good information, I feel the book would benefit from an editor. Many times the wrong word is used or is just plain missing (or several are missing--sometimes I just can't intuit what the author meant). I can overlook that; however, I feel like I'm being talked down to by the author, like a quick, breezy lecture to a young person (perhaps I just don't like the author's tone in general).

I will finish reading for information's sake because there are some wonderful points contained within.

Very on point and accurate

Once upon a time, I was in a pretty bad relationship. This book definitely brought me back to those times, but with a different perspective. It really framed what she did in terms of manipulation, and it fit to a t. That's how I knew that this book was super accurate - it brought back many of the feelings of inadequacy that I had from her, and the examples used in the book were very familiar. Damn.

Kudos to the author for presenting a delicate issue in such an accurate and insightful way.

Very eye opening stuff

Emotional manipulation, as the author says, is very subtle and isn't entirely conscious at first, even to the manipulator and abuser. It takes time and slowly seeps into a relationship, until you're left with the realization that you're not even happy... yet you are very afraid of being left.

Lots of very insight into the techniques and exactly why they work. I think the examples are very, VERY good and will help others recognize if they are falling prey to those situations. I recommend.

An intellectual, but illuminating, read.

I have just finished reading Laura Mark's new book--Enfoldment and Infinity--comparing Islamic art and contemporary media art. Laura is fascinated with the fractal geometry and the way that art (and life) unfolds as one examines on overall picture at closer and closer levels, unfolding the art to reveal hidden mysteries and connections to life forces and the divine. The book is lyrical and a delight to read, drawing parallels between Islamic art and new media art that are poetic and illuminating. Not having any background with philosophy, theology, art history, Islamic culture or new media art forms, beyond having a modicum of familiarity with current cultural icons such as "The Matrix" movie trilogy, the video games "Spore," genetic algorithms, and having bludgeoned my way through the first half of the Quran--it is NOT a light read. Laura assumes considerable knowledge of art history, philosophy and Islamic arts. However, in spite of being drenched in ignorance, I found the book fascinating and I will never look at Islamic or new media art in the same way again. Anyone with an interest in art theory, fractal geometries, algorithmic art forms, Islamic culture, and/or philosophy and who is willing to keep THINKING throughout the chapters will enjoy this work.
