Praise for Come and Go
Steady, smooth, and easy to follow, yet, providing enough intrigue to keep the reader engaged in the story. I loved the character's progression, the insecurities and uncertainty of where her life was going, and her changing goals. Smooth and comfortable, the writing has a near noire feel to it that I really enjoyed. - Honourable Mention at the 2012 Rainbow Awards in Best Lesbian Contemporary Fiction
Come and Go is equal parts funkysweetsexycool, and the writing manages to stay crisp and clean throughout the sordid story of the main character's turbulent love life. Lee Harlem Robinson is truly a memorable character. In many ways, she's every woman--a character who is so much more real and vulnerable than the serialized pseudo lesbians littering large swaths of lesbian fiction. - The Rainbow Reader

First Class First Novel
By Margaret
As a longish term expat in Hong Kong, always with their nose in a book, Come and Go is certainly one of the most compelling Hong Kong based novels I've read so far. I was given a copy by a friend and to be honest, I really didn't think it was going to float my boat at all. A five hour flight and a broken entertainment system on the plane had me eventually rummaging in my bag and giving it a go, and in the end I'm very glad I did.
A fun and well written piece, the characters are well constructed, whilst the locations and venues will be more than a little familiar to anyone who's ever experienced the Hong Kong gay scene, whether gay or like myself through gay friends. That is the brilliant thing bout this book - it combines a lesbian romance with the all too familiar struggles / challenges that any expat moving to Hong Kong faces when first they step foot in this fantastic breakneck paced city - and indeed what it's then like to settle and live here. I found myself touched emocionally and conversely laughing out loud many a time at the authors fantastic scenes - some of which are just hilarious.
Although lesbian romance runs through this book via the main character Lee, the book is so much more than just a lesbian romance. I compel any Hong Kong 20-30's expat reader gay or straight, male or female to read this and not find themselves identifying with the majority of the emotions, situations and life journeys you or your friends have taken in this city.
A must read for any gay or lesbian expats moving or thinking of moving to Hong Kong.
Never thought I'd find myself desperate for the next edition of a lesbian novelist, but I'm converted. Lee Harlem Robinson, when is part 2?

the Hong Kong l-word
By britt
I've really enjoyed reading Lee Harlem Robinson's blog "Trying to Throw My Arms Around the World", so I had to find out what happens next to Lee in the first book about her: "Come and Go".
"Come and Go" is about looking for love in a big city, where money, sex and power are easily traded and relationships are pretty shallow. The main character Lee is a thirtyish lesbian editor who lives in Hong Kong. Her love life has been one messy string of failed relationships and she struggles to 'set things right' and build a relationship that will survive the perils of the big city.
The book is fluently written and drags you into the Hong Kong nightlife instantly. It starts of rather slow, but then Lee's boss Lucy arrives in HK and things get totally out of hand.
Don't expect highbrow literature. "Come and go" is an uncomplicated fast read with lots of tongue-in-cheek humor and tons of lesbian drama. It's the Hong Kong l-word or an Asian expat version of Lip Service.
Try it, it's definitely worth a read!

Entertaining and engrossing read
By TH
I was attracted by the Hong Kong and gay context of the book, since I am a HK expat. However, after reading "Come and Go" in one sitting on a beach holiday, the book is more than just a lesbian romance novel. While HK expats will easily relate to the main character Lee (the frustration of steamy HK summer, the inability to find romance, the work life balance), the essence of the story is pretty universal. It is also quite refreshing to read on how women (or lesbian in this case) also have issue controlling their carnal lust. On the deeper level, the book does let the reader to ponder whether the traditional sense of relationship of monogamy and plain vanilla sex works for everyone. It is not high brow literature, but thankfully it doesn't pretend to be. I finished mine in one sitting by the pool!
