Jack Handey is the author of the bestselling Deep Thoughts series of books. He was a staff writer for Saturday Night Live, and has won two Emmy Awards and a Writers Guild of America Award. Fantastic! Hilariously enjoyable!

Like his works in past years, Handey creates delightfully moronic statements that make you laugh till your side hurts. While his great style remains the same, all sorts of new subjects are tackled in this third book in the Deep Thoughts series.

Required Reading

This book has long been required reading in the highly popular Forensics of Ambiguity classes I teach at The Runnymede Institute. My contention, which could easily be proven if Mr. Handey would kindly submit to autopsy procedures, is that the author has a number of unusually useful cranium maladies, including curvature of the brain and a hippocampus actually populated with tiny, studious hippos. The net result, a sort of detached retina of the mind, informs his observations in this book, which are more deeper than even the most deepish and/or depthful of any ever before.

Never gets old.

Sometimes, my eyes well up and my stomach hurts from laughing at some of them. You can read the whole thing in one or two sittings, or just read a few pages from time to time. After a while, it's always worth revisiting them. Most of them are clean, so I read them to my 7 and 9 year old kids too. They laugh really hard at some of them, but it isn't good for bed time because they keep repeating them and laughing while trying to get to sleep.
UPDATE: It's been about 2 years and we still quote this thing sometimes whenever some random thing reminds us of it. My kids were just laughing again yesterday when something reminded me of one of these to say.
