About the Author
Sara Davis Powell is a teacher–from the middle school classroom to teacher preparation as a professor at Belmont Abbey College. Powell's An Introduction to Education: Choosing Your Teaching Path was published by Pearson in 2008 and is the textbook for initial education courses in colleges across the country. She is actively involved in local classrooms and the middle school community through professional development, supervising clinical interns, and conducting research and writing about middle level issues. She is also a frequent speaker at regional and national conferences, where her enthusiasm for middle level education has proven contagious.

Excellent text for undergraduate courses

Dr. Powell's conversational style is quite reader-friendly. She provides depth of information in a manner that is easy to understand. This book is particularly strong as an undergraduate text for a Foundations of Middle Level Education course.

The book is exactly what it is supposed to be

This books is the philosophical manifesto of progressivism's socialistic indocrtination centers under the auspices of Middle School. John Dewey's dream of progressive (Socialistic)public education has been realized. Marx, Lennin and Stalin would be impressed with the philosphies in this book.
Make no mistake, this book is exactly what it proports to be. That is why it deserves all five stars.

Very broad

The book makes sweeping generalizations that seems like common sense. However since this was a mandatory book for a grad school class I like it for that purpose. It is an easy read and makes sense. The book is organized and follows coherent conditions determined by national and state teaching needs for Middle School. Yet, in my experience no book can ever teach you as much about teaching as actually being in the classroom.
