Skillfully fuses learning the higher frets and challenging pieces

Very useful for the advanced beginner/mid level student in learning to read the higher fret notes. Excellent scaler exercises along with pieces, some a bit difficult others just challenging enough to provide the stimuli needed to bridge the gap between beginner and total sophisticate.

Just okay

I am practicing through Noad's solo guitar playing, wanted to get more position-focused experience, so bought this book and couple of other books in this line.
1. The book has some pieces for each position, though most pieces also have shifting to other (lower) positions too; for example, pieces for third position are played in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position, not only the 3rd, so you have to play lots of 1st and 2nd positions in the piece to get some exposure to the 3rd position.
2. The book does not have any instructions or hints as to how to play the piece.
3. There is left-hand fingering for every single note on every single piece in the book; I preferred if it had fingerings on the first piece for each position to help you learn, then less fingerings on next pieces to encourage you to find out yourself; with fingering above all notes, the eyes tend to look at the number rather than the note.
Overall, this is just an okay book, nothing special.
I also bought a book by Roger Filiberto (Mel Bay's Deluxe Guitar Position Studies), which in comparison I think is a better book. It has more musics, does not provide fingering over all the notes (but only the first pieces for learning) and also explains some stuff about scales played in each position which I think is kind of good to know.
I recommend the Filiberto's book over this one.

Another great value from Walt Lawry. Great book for teachers that allow students to learn positions and repertoire.
