Disappointing

I wasn't all that impressed with this book. The chapter about sociopaths in the Bible seemed pretty farfetched. Some of the material was good, but a lot of it he was borrowing from another author, so I began to think maybe I should have bought her book. I was disappointed with what I received for the price I paid.

A Different Perspective!

Great book, even though a lot of the material is from other authors, it's brought together in a very practical way. As Christians, we sometimes feel guilty if we don't love everyone, we blame ourselves. This book walks you through how you can forgive people, but also choose not to have them in your life. There is pure evil in this world, not everyone is good. Making a decision to not allow wicked people into your life is life changing for me. Even if it's a blood relative, we must just turn them over to God. Their issues are theirs to work out, not ours. It's between them and God. The people that continue to lay guilt trips at your feet, to keep you enslaved to them and their approval.....we must step out of our own self imposed prison and find freedom. This book helped me do this.

Not Really A Book -- Just a Compilation of Other Books

This book covers a necessary topic, one which has seemed to slip between the cracks. The topic does seem like an oxymoron: Christians and Sociopaths; but, it is more a reality than one can imagine. The church (any denomination) is the perfect breeding ground for Sociopaths and the perfect cover for them. It was good and timely for Conner to address the topic.
Conner dealt with the topic from a 10,000 foot view, but swooped down to take a closer look at certain points. The reading was easy and flowed smoothly.
A serious drawback about this book is that it really is more of a composite of three other books: "The Sociopath Next Door", "Total Forgiveness", and "Love Fraud" plus sections of the Bible, as well as church prayers and catechisms. There actually was not much original writing in the book itself. Most books reference ideas, quotes or whatever -- rather than use them as the main substance of the book.
It is though Conner did not write a book, but just compiled some relevant, appropriate material from other books. Almost plagiarism, except that he gave credit. If I had written a "book" like that for graduate school, I believe that I would not have gotten a very good grade; I might have even flunked the assignment.
That being said, it was a quick read, with some interesting thoughts, especially if one has not read the embedded books. However, the price was too high for the book. Half the price would have been more on target.
I don't think I would recommend this book, unless someone could borrow it or get it for free.
